Entertaiment

A wide variety of groups, individuals and institutions contribute to the societal need for entertainment. These may range from the individual who chooses his or her own personal entertainment from a now enormous array of pre-recorded products, to the couple hosting a dinner party with music and dance; to the performance artist drawing audiences into a theater, auditorium, arena or other large venue, to the institution which organizes and supports a major scientific initiative to transform breakthroughs into cures for diseases such as cancer. The word entertain has evolved from the Latin intertenere, to hold inside, with the suffix -ment being a contraction of the Indo-European root ten.
