What is Fashion?

Fashion is a style that changes over time. It is a way for individuals to express their personality through the clothes they wear. It is not surprising that people associate the word ‘fashion’ with women; however, many men have also been fashion icons through their work in the clothing industry. Early couturiers (clothing designers) were men, including Charles Worth, Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel, Christian Dior and Yves Saint Laurent.

The fashion industry is huge, and it affects the lives of billions of people around the world. More people work in the fashion industry than in any other industry. These millions of people design, sew, knit and dye clothes, as well as market and distribute them. People who follow trends in fashion often get their ideas from magazines, television and social media.

Fashion also has a symbolic meaning, reflecting the attitudes and beliefs of individuals or groups. For example, a suit may symbolise power and formality, while jeans and a t-shirt may signify casualness and youthfulness. Fashion can also reflect milestones in life, such as a wedding or job interview.

It is important to have design skills when working in the fashion industry. This is because design enables you to create new fashion trends. It is also helpful to have a keen eye for detail, as well as being able to understand the mechanics of how fabric works. In addition to these skills, you should be able to communicate your ideas effectively.
